The Lagos State Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to enhancing grassroots governance and improving service delivery across Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

Speaking at the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission Summit, themed: “Strengthening Grassroots Governance and Service Delivery in Local Government and Local Council Development Areas”, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to empowering local government institutions for more effective governance.

The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, noted that since the inception of the current administration, Lagos State has remained committed to making grassroots governance the cornerstone of sustainable development.

He added that through strategic policies and programmes under the THEMES Plus Agenda, the government has prioritised infrastructure development, capacity building, and governance reforms, ensuring that LGAs and LCDAs can better serve their communities.

“Lagos State has consistently set the pace in grassroots development by championing initiatives that improve the quality of life for residents. From road rehabilitation and healthcare delivery to waste management, education, and community empowerment programmes, our local government institutions have shown that governance is most effective when it is localised and participatory”, Sanwo-Olu said.

While reiterating the commitment to grassroots development as Lagos State prepares for the forthcoming local government elections, the Governor emphasised the need for free, fair, and credible electoral processes that reflect the principles of democracy, equity, and good governance.

“Our vision is a Lagos where grassroots governance is synonymous with transparency, accountability, and inclusivity – a Lagos where every citizen, regardless of background, has access to quality services and opportunities,” he stated.

He commended the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, the Chairman of the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, and all LGA and LCDA chairpersons for their tireless efforts in advancing grassroots development.

The Governor urged all summit participants to actively engage in discussions that will lead to actionable reforms, strengthen local governance structures, and further enhance service delivery at the grassroots level. “Stronger grassroots governance means stronger communities and stronger communities mean a more prosperous and inclusive Lagos for all of us”, he added.
