Kalesanwo Inducted As LASTMA Mayor

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs. Oluyemi Kalesanwo, was formally inducted into the esteemed corps of Mayors of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in a ceremony held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the Ministry.

The induction is a significant milestone in her career and a celebration of her commitment to enhancing traffic management in Lagos State.

Mrs. Kalesanwo expressed deep honour at being inducted into the esteemed Corps of Mayors. She said it was a defining moment for her professional journey.

She extended her sincere gratitude to the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Oluwaseun Osiyemi; the Special Adviser for Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa and Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Transport, Mr. Olawale Musa, for providing her with the opportunity to contribute to the state’s ongoing efforts to improve traffic management.

Mrs. Kalesanwo further lauded the leadership of the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare Oki, for his dedication to ensuring smooth and efficient traffic flow across the state.

Acknowledging the tireless efforts of the entire LASTMA team, whose work has been crucial in making Lagos more orderly, she emphasised the importance of the initiative in addressing the culture of indiscipline among some drivers in the state.

The Permanent Secretary further noted that LASTMA’s efforts have played a vital role in bringing sanity to Lagos roads and helping in the overall management of traffic.

She reiterated her commitment to supporting LASTMA in its ongoing efforts and fostering greater collaboration between all stakeholders to help with traffic management.

The Director of Traffic Advocacy and Special Traffic Mayor, Mr. Jimmy Awoyemi, who led the LASTMA team, explained that the induction of Permanent Secretaries was an initiative of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, as traffic management is a collective effort.

He emphasised that since Permanent Secretaries are based in various areas across the state, they are in a unique position to identify traffic infractions and provide valuable feedback on traffic situations.

Awoyemi later presented Mrs. Kalesanwo with a directory containing the phone numbers of key LASTMA officials, enabling her to report traffic concerns efficiently.

The ceremony was also attended by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Bolaji Dada, Directors and Staff from both the Ministry and LASTMA.

This induction marks a significant step towards a more coordinated approach to addressing traffic issues and improving road safety across the state.
