Akpabio Hosts Senators To Iftar (Breaking Of The Fast)

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday hosted Senators who are Muslims at his official guest house to break their fast.

Also in attendance were some Senators who are Christians to demonstrate sense of unity and religious harmony in the 10th Senate.

In his remarks, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin thanked the Senate President for the gesture which according to him had become a yearly event since Akpabio came on board as Senate President.

“Thank you very much for this heart of generosity. May Allah continue to guide the 10th Senate, continue to protect us, show us His love so that we love one another, so that we stay united in the pursuit of enacting law for the prosperity of this country,” Barau said.

Also speaking, Senator Adamu Aliero, representing Kebbi Central, expressed gratitude to the Senate President for showing a “great deal of generosity” by hosting them to Iftar and prayed that God will reward him.

Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central, said it was for a divine purpose that this year Ramadan and Lent were being observed at the same period.

“Our coming together here this evening, on the behest of the Senate President, to break the fast with our Muslim brothers is a call by God Almighty for all of us to unite together for the good of this nation,” Senator Umeh said.

He said what the Senate President did was a “motivation to all of us to love each other.”

In his response, Akpabio thanked his colleagues for making out time to honour the invitation and prayed God to make this season of Ramadan and Lent “to continue to unite us, grant us peace in our hearts, and grant our President more wisdom to bring peace to all parts of Nigeria.”
